what-to-bring-1

1. A Passport, Driver’s License, or other picture ID

A government ID will be required for your admission process upon arrival at the center and may be necessary for your travel. All records will be held with strict confidentiality at Costa Rica Recovery.

2. Return Travel Information

Costa Rica requires proof of onward travel within 90 days of entering the country. You will be required to show onward travel documents to an immigration officer upon entering the country. We suggest purchasing a refundable or no change fee return ticket so that you can adjust it based on your duration of treatment. Please speak to an admissions representative for additional information.

3. Clothing

We recommend bringing clothing adequate for 7 days including gym wear. One suitcase and one carry-on are enough. We do your laundry once per week. Irons and ironing boards are accessible, but we suggest that wash-and-wear clothing will be more convenient. Dry cleaning services are available at an additional cost but such clothing is not recommended.

Please bring clothing suitable for gym or yoga, including shoes. The gym is available on a daily basis and yoga is available four times per week. Dress for therapy should be casual and appropriate, over revealing clothing and clothing with messages regarding drugs, alcohol, sex or gangs will not be permitted . A lightweight jacket or sweater is recommended for use at night. Flat-soled or tennis shoes are recommended. Flip flops or sandals are suggested for our beach trips as well as during the week for comfortable footwear.

  • Deodorant, Shampoo, Soap.
  • An electric or safety razor/shaver.
  • Products containing alcohol will not be permitted.
  • We provide you with a towel and all bedding items.

Bring all currently issued prescription medication for the duration of your stay in the original bottles with prescription information for our medical team to review. Liquid medications must be new and sealed. All medications will be reviewed and authorized by our medical team. Costa Rican pharmacies can supply most medications should you run out. Vitamins and over the counter medication must be new and in sealed containers.

6. A Debit Card or Credit Card

With staff supervision, clients can use a bank card to access personal spending money via ATM or bring cash to fund an in-house account. Costa Rica Recovery staff will hold all banking cards or cash and limit the amounts available to the patient.

Additionally, visa or mastercards can be used to make in house treatment payments.

7. Electronics

The use of electronic devices such as smart watches, cell phones or laptops are allowed only with clinical approval during approved hours. Please speak to an admissions representative for more information on our policy.

Kindles, Ipods, or similar devices without internet access are permitted so long as they do not present a distraction to your recovery process and are used during approved times.

You may wish to bring a small alarm clock or basic digital watch. We suggest bringing a small battery powered alarm clock or non smartwatch for your personal use. Our staff will wake you up each morning with a wake up call, but some of our clients prefer to have a device to wake up with. Please be sure the watch is not a smart watch with wifi access.

Bring a bathing suit for our beach trips, as well as sunscreen and sunglasses. A hat or visor for outdoor use is also recommended. You may wish to bring a second set of shoes for hikes or walks where your footwear may get wet.
